Bridgerland Technical College is pleased to host a Crime Scene Photography Course with Castle Forensic Photography in July 2027.  The instructor, Provo Police Master Officer Gary Carter (CPP), is a 29-year law enforcement veteran whose experience runs the gamut of law enforcement assignments, to include criminal investigations (both as a detective and a supervisor) and crime scene processing, as well as instructor assignments in multiple disciplines. Gary has been a professional photographer for ten years, and is recognized as a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) through the Professional Photographers of America..

Recognizing the lack of local offerings for comprehensive crime scene photography training for law enforcement officers, Gary has spent hundreds of hours developing this law enforcement photography course, drawing from both his 29-year law enforcement career and his experience as a professional photographer.  Topics covered in this four-day training include (but are not limited to) the following:

• Photography fundamentals
  • Principles behind how a camera works
  • How to operate a camera effectively
• Photo editing
• Metadata
• Overcoming challenging situations using knowledge-based problem solving
• Proper photographing of examination evidence
• Case laws involving photography
• Court preparation and admissibility

These skills will be taught both in a classroom setting and with practical exercises, documenting mock crime scenes.
